Pastor Chuck Swindoll, 90, Announces Retirement

Pastor Chuck Swindoll has announced that he’s retiring as pastor from the 3700-member Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, at the age of 90.

Swindoll is best known for his radio program Insights for Living, which plays on over 2000 stations, and for writing over 70 books. He previously announced in April 2024 that he was quitting the senior pastor but would still be preaching from the pulpit, but now he’s also retiring from that as well.

An announcement posted to the church website reads:

As I stand before you today, I find myself filled with a profound sense of gratitude and bittersweet reflection. After 26 incredible years as your senior pastor at Stonebriar Community Church, the time has come for me to retire from Stonebriar—and embrace a new chapter in my life.

While Swindoll will be stepping away from the pulpit and preach his last sermon in October, he plans on staying active for the kingdom, shifting his “singular focus to Insight for Living,” where he’ll be “diving into weekly meetings, encouraging passionate young pastors, recording podcasts, and even writing a few books.” He writes:

I want to embrace every day, every challenge, and every opportunity to impact lives, because one never retires from the work of God’s kingdom.

This decision was not made lightly. Each moment spent with you has shaped me, taught me, and filled my heart with joy. Together, we have built a vibrant community grounded in faith, hope, and love. We have shared countless memories, celebrated milestones, and faced challenges hand in hand.
