New Poll: Half of Pastors Plan To Vote For Trump

In what will surely grind the gears of progressives pundits and Jesus and John Wayne acolytes, 50% of pastors say they plan to vote for President Trump over Kamala Harris in the upcoming election, according to a new report by Lifeway Research.

The sample, based on a phone survey of 1003 senior pastors with a margin of error of +/- 3.3%, found that 25% of pastors intended to vote for Harris, and another 25% would not say or were unsure.

Notably, the number of pastors who refused to say or were unsure who they were voting for is much higher than in previous years, with surveys in the 2016 and 2020 elections showing only 3% and 4% of being reticent to answer the question.

The research also found:

Female pastors are more likely to select “Kamala Harris” than males (51% v. 18%)
Male pastors are more likely to select than “Donald Trump” than females (54% v. 26%)
African American pastors (71%) are more likely to select “Kamala Harris” than pastors who are White (21%) and Hispanic (13%)
Mainline pastors are more likely to select “Kamala Harris” than Evangelical pastors (50% v. 10%)
Pastors at churches with attendance 0-49 are the most likely to select “Kamala Harris” (31%)
Pastors at churches with attendance of 50-99 (53%) and 250+ (65%) are more likely to select “Donald Trump” than those at churches with attendance of 0-49 (42%)

You might be surprised that only half of America’s pastors will vote for Donald Trump. But please note, the pastors who will vote for Kamala Harris are most likely to have the fewest church members and smallest churches. In addition, mainline churches (older, more liberalized denominations that are largely financially solvent only because they’re living upon the proceeds from selling off property obtained back when the denomination was still loosely affiliated with the gospel) are more likely to vote for Kamala.

More vibrant, gospel-faith churches have pastors voting for Donald Trump by an overwhelming margin.
