No More Pastrixes! SBC Messengers Vote to Amend the BFAM 2000, Crushing the Dreams of Bitter Egalitarians
In a historic win for conservative Southern Baptists that echoes the conservative resurgence 40 years earlier, messengers at the 2023 Annual Meeting approved a motion to amend Article 6 of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, clarifying the roles of women and clearly and unambiguously barring them from holding any pastoral roles- whether it be senior pastor, associate pastor, youth pastor, or children’s pastor.
Introduced by Mike Law of Virginia’s Arlington Baptist Church, a man made busy sounding the clarion call over the presence of thousands of women pastrixes that have snuck into the denomination, the amendment was approved with around 80% of the vote. It now reads:
In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Its two scriptural offices are that of pastor/elder/overseer and deacon. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor/elder/overseer is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.
Previously it stated.
In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Its scriptural officers are pastors and deacons. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.
The amendment clarifies things quickly and removes much of the semantic wiggle room employed by egalitarians seeking to nestle into the crevices of the confession, ensuring there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth from denominational gadflys who thought they were in the clear. (Note. It still needs to be ratified at two successive meetings by 2/3 of messengers in order to be settled law.)
It was also a bruising loss for the SBC’s Executive Committee, which can always be counted on to do the wrong thing. They recommended that messengers voted against the amendment and swiftly had their lunch thrown back into their faces, which are now freshly smeard with tomato sauce and spaghetti noodles.
As it should be.
My most recent pay test was for a 12-hour-per-week internet job for 9,500 dollars. For months, my sister’s friend has been making an average of 15,000, and she puts in about 20 hours every week. As soon as I gave it a try, I was shocked at how simple it was

I think this wording will bite if it is not elaborated upon. Please notice what I think it should be…
In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Its two scriptural offices are that of pastor/elder/overseer and deacon. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor/elder/overseer is limited to [those born as] men as qualified by Scripture.
Maybe there’s hope for the SBC after all…
PLEASE PEOPLE. 99% of SBC churches employ women in pastoral roles and will continue to do so. Women broadly hold the roles of Children’s Pastor, Student Pastor, College Pastor, First Impressions Pastor, Assimilation Pastor, Small Groups Pastor, Worship Pastor, etc, etc, etc. They simply carry the title of Minister rather than Pastor. They may not be ordained, but they are in pastoral roles, teaching the Scriptures and leading children and adults in their respective ministry. This amendment will have few consequences. It could only be potentially effective if said, “the roles of pastor/elder/overseer, whether the person is identified as a pastor/elder/overseer by title, or if they are performing a pastoral role according to the responsibilities and freedoms assigned to them, will be limited to men as qualified by Scripture”.
A great leap backwards. How very sad.
When looking to buy pull-out couches, there are several options to consider. You can check furniture stores such as IKEA, Ashley HomeStore, and Wayfair. Online marketplaces like Amazon and eBay also offer a wide range of choices. Additionally, consider local classifieds, thrift stores, and online classified websites like Craigslist for potential deals.{wdc}
