Reading Mayor Joins Police Chief in DEFENDING Pride Arrest: ‘Freedom of Speech does NOT Include the Right to Disrupt an Organized Event’

Reading Mayor Eddie Moran has issued a statement following the controversial arrest of protester Damon Atkins outside a Gay pride event that he was attending, suggesting to local news that he was pleased with the way the situation was handled:

Reading city Mayor Eddie Moran, who participated in the pride rally, said it was a “wonderful event,” and claimed that Atkins’ First Amendment rights did not include the right to speak publicly across the street from the event.

“With regard to the incident, the City respects the First Amendment rights of all individuals,” Moran said in a statement provided to 69 News. “However, freedom of speech does not include the right to disrupt an organized event and interfere with the rights of others.”

In a post announcing the event, Moran vowed to “treat every person and resident in this city equally, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.”

This is clearly not the case if you’re a heterosexual white male peacefully exercising First Amendment rights in public. Moran was not the only one justifying the arrest. Police Chief Richard Tornielli also defended the officer who made the arrest, saying:

Our officers gave him warnings to cease that behavior as it was disrupting the event that was taking place.”

In 2019, former Reading mayor Wally Scott prohibited City Council from flying the flag, but that changed when Moran took office, being an enthusatisc supporter of all things LGBTQ. He said at the time that promotin the LGBTQ flag from government buildings was “about the unity and relationships that have been created to ensure everybody in Reading has a voice.”

He has since hosted and cosponsored the city’s first-ever “Pride March and Rally” and his office now has an official Liaison to the LGBTQ community, and has this message posted on their city’s website:

  1. There’s no such thing as a “version” of the truth. Either something is true, or it isn’t. God has determined what is true, and He tells us that truth in His word. Most everybody reading here, including me, cares about fidelity to scripture, and is more than willing to correct ourselves if our interpretations are wrong. But you can’t correct us by bellyaching. You’ve got to post scripture. Post it. Speak up.

    1. My most recent pay test was for a 12-hour-per-week internet job for 9,500 dollars. For months, my sister’s friend has been making an average of 15,000, and she puts in about 20 hours every week. As soon as I gave it a try, I was shocked at how simple it was.

  2. My last month paycheck was for 11000 dollars….. All i did was simple online work from comfort at home for 3-4 hours/day that I got from this agency I discovered over the internet and they paid me for it 95 bucks every hour…..>>> https://homejobs504.blogspot.com/

  3. Apparently disrupting an organized service of the state established and imposed religion of porneia worship is a violation of the 1st Amendment. 🙄

    Stupid reprobates.

The disruption of government imposition of belief systems is exactly why the 1st Amendment exists in the first place. Specifically to disrupt and limit such organized efforts.

  4. If the mayor and people of reading want to go back to the original designs, where the Constitution only limited the federal government, and states and local governments had official religions, I’m fine with that. But until that happens, he’s going to have to deal with the fact that it exists specifically to disrupt and limit his organized efforts.

Let a private entity censor Christians, and the first words out of the reprobates’ mouths are “they’re private, they’re not limited by the Constitution”

Uh huh, well Mr. Atkins is also a private citizen, and is not limited by the Constitution. Now put on your dunce cap and go sit in the corner.

  5. See what happens when you reject God’s law, you get tyrant cops enforcing tyrant laws and chiefs of police and mayors lying about it. Cops and politicians are allowed and do lie with much impunity. So the brother tells the cops things he doesn’t like, the tyrant cop arrests him for being disruptive…the cop is a filthy stinking liar.

  6. Like so many civilizations before it, much of this nation, including its government, has unflinchingly abandoned God for worship of self, and like those nations, God will honor His promise of justice.
Hebrews 10:31 – It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God…

    1. I doubt it. Like Thomas Sowell described the thinking of liberal/leftists…they have first stage thinking. They never get beyond “did it serve my immediate purposes” (and those purposes are usually none too good). They never think about consequences. Besides that, if the brother sues and wins, they won’t be responsible for the pay out, the tax payers will. These 3, the cop, the chief, and the mayor will bear zero burden for this. I wouldn’t doubt they are laughing about the whole thing at this point. Look what we did to these retrogressive Christian rubes…Ha Ha.
